About Us

The Ohio Collegiate Summer Baseball League provides college baseball players an opportunity to advance their baseball skills while allowing the player to pursue internships, summer employment, and/or attend summer college courses.

League Creation

In the fall of 2001, the Central Ohio Amateur Baseball Federation (COABF) launched a collegiate-level summer baseball league, marking a new era for amateur baseball in central Ohio. This new league was established during the COABF’s fall meeting and debuted with four founding teams:

  • Columbus Braves

  • Columbus Hawks

  • Gahanna Rockets

  • Ohio Thunder

These teams had previously competed in the COABF's 18U division during the summer of 2001, transitioning to primarily 19U rosters for the collegiate league's inaugural season. The league was formed in partnership with the All-American Amateur Baseball Association (AAABA) in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. As part of this affiliation, the league's champion earned the opportunity to compete in the prestigious AAABA World Series.

League Evolution and Expansion (2006–Present)

By 2006, the league had expanded significantly with the addition of four new teams:

  • Chillicothe Capitals

  • Columbus Cobras

  • Columbus Sharks

  • Pickerington Big Katz

With the increase in teams and geographic reach, the league changed its name to the Tri-State Collegiate League. It introduced Northern and Southern Divisions, with the Columbus-area teams forming the Southern Division. The Northern Division featured teams from Ohio and western Pennsylvania:

  • Allegheny A’s

  • Pittsburgh Pandas

  • Shannon Fence (Washington, PA)

  • Toledo Hawks

  • Youngstown Crocodiles

In 2009, due to excessive travel demands within the Tri-State League, the southern teams branched off to form the Ohio Independent Collegiate Baseball League (OICBL). Two new teams were added:

  • Mansfield JABC

  • North Columbus Bruins

That same season, teams also began playing regular non-league games against the Zanesville Jr. Pioneers.

In 2014, the league reorganized as the Ohio Independent Collegiate Baseball Association (OICBA). This new structure featured two leagues and awarded two AAABA World Series berths. New teams included:

  • Dayton Diamondbacks

  • Zanesville Jr. Pioneers

The league reached a total of 10 teams, solidifying its presence in central and southern Ohio.

In 2018, the league adopted its current name: the Ohio Collegiate Summer Baseball League (OCSBL). The league consisted of eight teams:

  • Columbus Braves

  • Columbus Bruins

  • Chillicothe Capitals

  • Columbus Jets

  • Central Ohio Zebras

  • Dayton Diamondbacks

  • Ohio Clippers

  • Zanesville Jr. Pioneers

Since 2018, the league has experienced team changes and now operates with seven teams. The OCSBL remains focused on providing a competitive summer baseball experience for collegiate athletes combined with the ability for the student athletes to work or take summer college courses. The league is continually looking to expand within the central Ohio region.
